Sort of related, thanks to Ralph for pointing out this little gem from an interview with Oscar winner Sandra Bullock last week:

Sandra: But if I can say, I do think that Zoe Saldana got robbed in not getting an nomination. I would happily give up my nod for her because she was amazing in Avatar.
Ms.A: Awwww! How sweet..Go ZOE! SAU don’t you just love to see Actresses sticking together?

82nd Annual Academy Awards

“It’s yards and yards of fabric. It’s the dress that the moment my stylist and I saw it we immediately fell in love with it. It fits everything I’ve been through leading up to tonight and my whole experience in Avatar. It embodies everything that I’ve been through. It’s big and it’s colourful and shimmery. That’s exactly what Avatar did.”

Zoë’s Last Minute Oscar Prep

Posted By Mata on March 6, 2010

Over the past year Zoe Saldana has traveled from Moscow to Mexico promoting Star Trek and Avatar, jetted to Italy for Milan Fashion Week and journeyed to the Dominican Republic to help victims of the earthquake in Haiti. Now she’s back in L.A. with only a few days to get ready for the most glamorous night in Hollywood. “I’ve never been to the Oscars,” Saldana told us at yesterday’s Essence Black Women in Hollywood luncheon, where she received the Star to Watch award. “And all these designers have made dresses for me, but I haven’t picked one yet!” The pressure is on and time is running out, but Saldana has a secret weapon: “My stylist Petra Flannery knows me more than I know myself when it comes to fashion. She always puts me in something fits my personality and my mood, and she knows I go insane if I’m uncomfortable. Plus she wants me to look extra special,” Saldana said. “I’m pretty sure she’s going to find me the best dress!”

Zoë covers Glamour

Zoë is featured on one of three covers of the upcoming April issue of Glamour! :D

Zoë Saldana: The Most Elegant Member of the Glam New Guard
She’s had a career-changing year, and now the superchic “blue girl” from Avatar, 31, tells writer Laurie Sandell all about it.

GLAMOUR: How has your definition of glamour changed over the years?

ZOË SALDANA I love aging. Why would I want to be 21 for the rest of my life? Glamour is about feeling good in your own skin.

GLAMOUR: In past interviews, you’ve bristled on the topic of race. Why?

ZOË SALDANA Because ethnic is a word that doesn’t exist in my vocabulary. In Hollywood, you hear things like, “Oh, they loved you but they want to go more traditional.” That’s the new N word. So when [someone says] I look “dark,” I say, “Dark compared to whom? This is just my skin.”

GLAMOUR: This truly is the Year of Zoë Saldana . How has your life changed?

ZOË SALDANA To quote a rapper, “Mo’ money, mo’ problems.” More work, less time to live.

GLAMOUR: Is it tough to make time for your boyfriend, [actor] Keith Britton?

ZOË SALDANA Well, it’s not like he sits around waiting. We travel a lot, which keeps things alive. We’re very private. It’s worked for 10 years—long enough to go to hell and back.

GLAMOUR: Where will you be in 10 years?

ZOË SALDANA I want to be the best daughter, sister, friend and wife I can possibly be—because when I die, I am not going to be buried with my Oscar. I want to love life.

Zoë in Wonderland

Posted By Mata on February 27, 2010

Thanks to fatcookie for the heads up! :D

After starring in two of the biggest films of last year Zoe Saldana is not wasting any time moving on to her next challenge.

The year 2009 was a busy one for Zoe Saldana, having been the leading lady in two of the year’s biggest films – playing Uhura in J. J. Abrams’ re-imagined Star Trek, and Na’vi princess Neytiri in James Cameron’s ground-breaking Avatar. Despite beginning her acting career at the turn of the century, it took a while for Saldana to find her way into the acting world, having spent many years training as a ballerina – something she demonstrated in her debut film role as Eva Rodríguez in 2000’s cult dance film Center Stage.

“In my mind, I will always be a dancer, but my body seems to differ,” she laughs. “I started danc- ing a little late in life, and even though I enjoy it and gave it my all six days a week, I realised that I couldn’t be as good a dancer as I wanted, and my body was telling me ‘You’ve been putting me through the mill for nine years and this is as far as I am gonna go.’ I would want to be much better, so I took a step back and I parted with it.” (more…)
